Summer Term 2026
Here is our timetable for the Summer term. This may change slightly depending on other factors, but our P.E. days will be Mondays and Thursdays. Please wear your P.E. kit to school on these days.

Topic
Our topic for the Summer term is the Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain, which is the next part of the story of Britain following the Romans. The children will learn about where the Anglo-Saxons came from, why they came and their impact on life in Britain. The children will learn about everyday life in Anglo-Saxon Britain; how we know about what it was like and what evidence still exists from their time here. As part of this, the children will learn about the gods they worshipped; how they structured their societies and how they dealt with people who didn’t follow their laws. The children will make biscuits in D&T using an Anglo-Saxon recipe and in Geography, will study rainforests and then compare Chester to a rainforest. The art session will be based on ’craft and design: fabrics of nature’ which links to our rainforest Geography topic.
English
In English, the children will be developing their reading and writing skills through a unit of work based on the book ‘Journey’. This unit will aid the children to plan and write their own adventure story. After half term, we will study the book ‘Zeraffa Giraffa’. The children will plan and write a persuasive guide for visiting Zeraffa at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris.
We will continue to develop spelling, punctuation and grammar skills throughout these units of work.
In early June 2026 the Year 4s will be doing their 'Multiplication Check'. They are given 6 seconds to answer times tables questions up to 12 x 12.
It is therefore really important to try to find time at home for your child to practise their times tables as practising them frequently is the only way to establish fluency in this area.
We are of course practising these in school, but time and resources are limited and so individual practice at home is crucial.
There are some links to useful websites at the bottom of this page which can be used to practise times tables fluency at home.
For more information about the check, click on this link.
Mathletics - Multiverse A fun way to practise lots of different aspects of Maths.
Hit the Button Great, simple times tables practice.
MTC Practice A great website to practise a times tables test with a short amount of time for each question. This is similar to the statutory 'Multiplication Check' which all Year 4 pupils undertake in June each year. This website gives you 10 seconds for each question, whereas the 'real' test is only 6 seconds! This is also the webpage we use to assess the pupils' times tables each half term.
Mathletics Maths task may be set as homework on Mathletics.
Spellzone Practise games and activities for the weekly spellings.
Read Theory Practise reading and comprehension as often as you like. Log in and it will give you reading activities at a suitable level. Request your child's login details if interested.
On P.E. days, all children will be coming into school in their PE kit. Please ensure that children are wearing the correct kit, as detailed below:
White T-shirt
Navy shorts-these must be worn for gymnastics (Summer term). If it is cold, they can be worn under jogging bottoms and removed for the lesson
White socks
Navy Tracksuit bottoms when it is cold
Navy plain jumper
Trainers (not pumps)
Long hair must always be tied back
Jewellery must be removed for all PE lessons. New piercings may be taped for PE until they can be removed, however, they cannot be taped for swimming lessons due to the pool policy.
In Puffins and Kingfishers classes, the children are lucky enough to have a professional music teacher who visits the class each week and teaches them trumpet. Trumpets will be allocated to each pupil in the first few weeks of the new term.
Music lessons will be on a Friday morning. Once children have an instrument this will need to be in school for the lesson. Regular practice at home is encouraged.
