Autumn Term 2026

This term, our topic will be The Vikings, providing exciting learning opportunities across several curriculum areas. In History, children will explore who the Vikings were, where they came from and why they invaded Britain. In Geography, children will use maps, atlases, globes and digital mapping tools such as Google Earth and Digimaps to locate Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland, learning that these countries are collectively known as Scandinavia. They will explore the region's physical features, including mountains, rivers and coasts, learn the eight points of a compass, and investigate how climate and natural resources influenced Viking life and settlement. In Design and Technology, pupils will explore different types of bread before designing and making their own bread products. Finally, in Music, children will continue to develop their musical skills through brass instrument lessons, building confidence in performance and musicianship. We look forward to an exciting and engaging term of learning.

Here is our timetable for the Autumn term. This may change slightly depending on other factors, but our P.E. days will be Mondays and Wednesdays. Please wear your P.E. kit to school on these days, dressing appropriately for the weather as some sessions may be outside.

PE Kit

On P.E. days, all children will be coming into school in their PE kit. Please ensure that children are wearing the correct kit, as detailed below:

• Plain white T-shirt
• Navy jogging bottoms / shorts. Please note, for dance and gymnastics, shorts must be worn for safety reasons. If it is cold, they can be worn under jogging bottoms and removed for the lesson.
• White socks
• Navy plain jumper
• Trainers (not pumps)

• Long hair must always be tied back
• Jewellery must be removed for all PE lessons. New piercings may be taped for PE until they can be removed, however, they cannot be taped for swimming lessons due to the pool policy.

Music - Brass lessons

In Puffins and Kingfishers classes, the children are lucky enough to have a professional music teacher who visits the class each week and teaches them trumpet. Trumpets will be allocated to each pupil in the first few weeks of the new term.

Music lessons will be on a Friday morning. Once children have an instrument this will need to be in school for the lesson. Regular practice at home is encouraged.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

In early June 2026 the Year 4s will be doing their 'Multiplication Check'. They are given 6 seconds to answer times tables questions up to 12 x 12.

It is therefore really important to try to find time at home for your child to practise their times tables as practising them frequently is the only way to establish fluency in this area.

We are of course practising these in school, but time and resources are limited and so individual practice at home is crucial.

• Hit the Button Great, simple times tables practice.

• MTC Practice A great website to practise a times tables test with a short amount of time for each question. This is similar to the statutory 'Multiplication Check' which all Year 4 pupils undertake in June each year. This website gives you 10 seconds for each question, whereas the 'real' test is only 6 seconds! This is also the webpage we use to assess the pupils' times tables each half term.

• Mathletics Maths task may be set as homework on Mathletics.

• Spellzone Practise games and activities for the weekly spellings.

• Read Theory Practise reading and comprehension as often as you like. Log in and it will give you reading activities at a suitable level. Request your child's login details if interested.
