Autumn Term 2026

Topic - Fire, Fire, Fire!

The topic this term is ‘Fire! Fire! Fire!’ We will look at the events that surrounded the fire in London in 1666 and will use a variety of resources (diary extracts, pictures, computer images, information books etc) to learn about the fire. There will be a focus on Samuel Pepys’ diary and how the fire spread. We will learn about the dangers of fire and general fire safety. We hope that the Fire Service will visit to talk to us about the dangers of fire and how to keep safe. We will have a ‘Fire of London’ day to further enrich the children’s learning. In Music, we will learn about the music of the British Isles and create music of our own . In Art, we will explore fire-related ideas and colours and will design, make and evaluate a clay tile. In Design and Technology we will be designing and making a fruit jelly. We will regularly use computers and will learn to recognise the uses and features of information technology and how to keep safe. Later we will learn about digital photography and tools to change an image. We will learn how to stay safe when online. During PE lessons, we will focus on invasion games and ball skills. In PSHE, we will explore ‘My Healthy Self’ by recognising emotions, noticing how they change, and using simple strategies to stay calm and manage worries. We will also focus on ‘Connecting with Families’ by thinking about what makes us special, how loved ones help us feel safe, and how we can show kindness in class.

PE Kit needed

Tuesday and Thursday – on these days, your child will need to come to school dressed in their PE kit. They will stay in their kit all day.

Seesaw

This is a useful app which we introduced during lockdown for home learning and contact between school and home. It is still useful to share important information, ask questions and send messages. Seesaw is checked daily.

Spelling Tests

The children will be given a termly spelling booklet to practise their weekly spellings at home. Spelling tests will take place every Thursday morning. Week 1 spelling test will commence the second week on 10.09.26
